In the year 1704, in an attempt to capture a valuable cargo of silver, Captain Bones Bilgewater’s pirate ship sank—and Bilgewater was never seen again. Three hundred years later, while on a field trip to the New Metropolitan Maritime Museum, pirate aficionado and sixth-grader, Alva Khoury, discovers that he and Bones lack the same virtue: self-control. Just when Alva is about to give up hope that he’ll find the self-control he needs to avoid being sent home from the only field trip he’s ever been interested in, he meets an eccentric museum curator who presents Alva with a gift from Bones Bilgewater himself.
