The Huggertree Me
Topic: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Grade Level: K-2

Synopsis
While Cammie is home sick with the flu she learns, from a walking, talking deciduous tree, that the earth is not as healthy as it should be either; and if she and all the kids in the audience and all their parents and teachers don’t start taking better care of the earth, it could end up very sick indeed.  With the HuggerTree’s entertaining and effective coaching, Cammie learns about resource conservation and the Three R’s: Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle.

Educational Objectives
  1. To teach children that if we don’t change how we do things now, they could live as adults in a world that has poor drinking water, unclean air, dirty lakes, few trees, a damaging sun and energy supplies that do not meet their needs
  2. To teach simple conservation measures such as:  turning off the water when brushing teeth, wearing extra clothing instead of turning up the heat, and turning lights off when leaving the room
  3. To teach children that resources such as water, oil, and aluminum are limited
  4. To teach children that trees, which are essential for many birds and animals and for cleaning the air, are being needlessly wasted
  5. To empower students to encourage the adults in their lives to conserve energy and practice the Three R’s
Space Requirements: 30x25 feet deep x 10 feet high ceiling

“My kids have never been so engaged in anything before.  The material was presented in such an age-appropriate, yet humorous way that even I was laughing.  The kids hung on every word the actors had to say and they learned so much about the importance of recycling materials, reducing what we use, and reusing what we do use.  Since [CLIMB] came to our school, my kids have been so conscious about putting paper into the paper recycling container.  They have been using their mini whiteboards more to conserve paper.  Learning these lessons early in life will help them become better members of society in the long run.”
