Performing Company Positions

Positions available:  Actors, Directors, Stage Managers, Costume Designer /
Rehearsal Wardrobe, Set Designer, Technical Director, Assistant Technical
Director, and Rehearsal Technical Director.
 
Performing Company Actors
CLIMB’s Performing Company includes 5-6 ensembles of 3-4 actors. Each ensemble performs a repertory of 1-5 plays for grades K-12.  In addition to performing, PerfCo Actors help to load in, set up and load out sets, props and costumes.  Each Actor also takes on additional job responsibilities such as arranging hotels for overnight stays, driving her/his ensemble’s truck, coordinating media visits, and communicating with the school contact person and road management.
 
Qualifications:  Actor candidates must either hold a college degree in theater or have spent time as an actor in a setting that prepared them for a rigorous performance schedule.  They must be strong performers capable of playing multiple characters in a short span of time.  Experience with children and/or training in Creative Drama, Theatre-In-Education, or Theatre of the Oppressed is a plus, but is not necessary.

Rehearsal Stage Managers
Rehearsal Stage Managers stage-manage for one or more of the Performing Company ensembles.  S/he is responsible for tracking all blocking, script changes, and rehearsal notes and creates a legible copy of a “working script” for each show. The Rehearsal Stage Managers are also responsible for transporting sets, props, costumes, and technical equipment to and from rehearsal sites in a CLIMB truck, organizing and familiarizing the actors with all technical elements of the shows, videotaping selected rehearsals, finding/building props needed for the shows, attending production meetings and tech rehearsals, and other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications: Candidates must have stage management experience in a variety of settings, and experience with gathering and creating props, and with lights, sound systems and wireless microphones.   Stage Managers must have a college degree in the technical aspects of theatre and of stage management, or have equivalent experience.
 
Directors
Freelance directors direct plays for each season’s repertoire. They function as part of a team consisting of a Rehearsal Stage Manager, the Maintainer, the Producer of Excellence in Performance, the Playwright (when available), the Artistic Director and the Actors. Together, the team shares responsibilities for all aspects of CLIMB’s productions.
 
Qualifications:  Director candidates must possess significant professional experience directing actors at all experience levels.  Experience directing theatre for youth is a definite plus, but not required.
 
Technical Director
The Technical Director, with oversight from the designer and the Producer of
Excellence in Performance, builds all new sets and refurbishes the mechanics and construction of existing sets in advance of the start of rehearsals. S/he may also serve as a charge painter and sound tech.  S/he must be available for production meetings during the construction period and for timely, onsite consultation during the rehearsal process.
 
Qualifications:  Must have demonstrated high level of skill in set construction and in understanding materials that can be employed to build sets that are sturdy, tour-proof and easy to transport.  Must have worked successfully in this capacity in other venues.
 
Rehearsal Technical Director
During the rehearsal period, the Rehearsal Technical Director modifies sets, as necessary, to ensure that set problems discovered in rehearsal are remedied.
 
Qualifications:  Must have demonstrated high level of skill in set construction and in understanding materials that can be employed to modify sets to ensure that they are sturdy, tour-proof and easy to transport.  S/he must also be able to do minimal charge painter duties. Must have worked successfully in these capacities in other venues.
 
Set Designers
Set Designers work with the Producer of Excellence in Performance, to create design concepts for plays that are theatrical, imaginative, and that meet touring production requirements.  Designers must provide final elevations and material recommendations and must be available to oversee set construction and communicate clearly and regularly with the Producer of Excellence in Performance and the Technical Director.  Designers shop for materials and will be reimbursed for these purchases. Designers must meet deadlines as set by the Producer of Excellence in Performance.   S/he must assist with set construction and painting as needed and be available for production meetings.
 
Costume Designers
Costume designers must work with the Producer of Excellence in Performance to create, build, or purchase costumes for new plays.  S/he must be able to refurbish and/or rebuild designs for existing plays.  Designers must be able to meet deadlines as set by the Producer of Excellence in Performance.
Designers must be able to shop for materials on a reimbursement basis.
Costume designers must be available for fittings during the rehearsal process, and be present for tech rehearsals and for production meetings.
 
Set and Costume Designer Qualifications:  Designers must have a representative portfolio available for viewing and evidence that they have designed a variety of shows. Designers may possess a college degree in the technical aspects of theatre and of set and/or costume design or have equivalent experience.
