- To demonstrate the vital role teachers, counselor, and early awareness programs can play in students' success
- To communicate that choices made in seventh and eighth grade may be the most critical ones a student makes because they connect to success in high school, which connects to being accepted into college
- To communicated that there is wisdom (and no shame) in asking for help
- To demonstrate the need for short-term sacrifice for long-term gains
- To demonstrate that you can't put off doing better; very soon it is too late
- To help students to see that , while others force them to go to school, they are completely in charge of whether they use school to their advantage or not
Follow-Up Classes
During the follow-up class for CLIMB's higher education preparedness play, Power to the Eighth, a trained actor leads students through activities that help them to: identify the choices that characters from the play made that were helpful or harmful to their futures, recognize the classes they will need to take to graduate from high school, and practice asking for help from a teacher.
