Respect Classes for Grades K-2

Synopsis
After a few minutes of rehearsal, it’s pretty obvious that Deb Diva is not ready to play the lead role in the Broadway production of Pinocchio.  She knows her lines, and she’s certainly eager enough, but she doesn’t seem to know how to respectfully participate when she’s part of a group.  Luckily, director Dell A. Gate and the other actors in the cast (played by your students) are willing to help her learn.  In this charming class, students learn how to pay attention, respect the property of others, and admit to and learn from their mistakes.

Educational Objectives

  1. To define respect and paying attention
  2. To demonstrate the negative consequences of not being respectful
  3. To demonstrate the importance of respecting others’ property
  4. To teach students how to respond if they've made a mistake
  5. To brainstorm ways that students can show respect at school

Audience size:  35 students maximum in a classroom; up to 40 students in a multi-purpose room

Respect Classes for Grades 3-6

Synopsis
Respect is an important pillar in many schools’ character education programs, but the word is used so often that it can lose meaning for some students.  In this highly interactive and entertaining class, students are introduced to the idea that their classroom is a community and their actions affect others in that community. By examining ways to show respect for each other and each other's belongings, students will understand what respect looks like and what they, as individuals, can do to positively impact their community.

Educational Objectives

  1. To demonstrate the concept of respect as it relates to a classroom community
  2. To demonstrate various kinds of classroom disrespect
  3. To brainstorm ways in which disrespect affects the classroom community
  4. To acknowledge the reasons why people might show disrespect to one another
  5. To brainstorm new ways of relation to each other in the absence of disrespect

Audience size:  35 students maximum in a classroom; up to 40 students in a multi-purpose room
