Ride Of Your Life
Topic: Bullying Prevention
Grade Level: 3-6

Synopsis
An ordinary backyard birthday party becomes extraordinary when Artor, a reformed bully from the planet Sharlmar, lands in the center of it.  Compelled to stop bullying wherever he finds it, Artor takes the kids into deep space, where a bully learns empathy, a victim learns self-assertion, and a bystander is motivated to take action.

Educational Objectives
  1. To define bullying, including various types of bullying behavior
  2. To examine why bullying occurs
  3. To define the two types of victims bullies tend to target:  passive and provocative
  4. To give victims tools and strategies to use when they are being bullied
  5. To introduce the CALM strategy (Cool down, Assert yourself, Look the bully in the eye, and Mean it)
  6. To motivate bystanders to take action to create an environment in which bullying is not tolerated

“The day after CLIMB came, we had a third-grade girl come up to her teacher and ask her if the teacher would go with her while she talked to a girl that had been bullying her on the bus. The teacher went with the student and they met with the girl who was doing the bullying.  The third grader used the strategies given to her by CLIMB to tell the girl who had been bullying her what she saw, how she felt, and what she wanted.  The older girl that had been bullying her said she would stop…and she did.”
