Synopsis
Cheese has always wanted to join the circus, and now that Macaroni, the Ringmaster, is holding auditions, he has his big chance. Cheese passes Macaroni’s first two tests of Daring and Cunning easily…but when the third test requires him to do something he knows could hurt him, he isn’t sure what to do. With the help of his friends, played by your students, Cheese learns that “saying NO is O.K.” and his courage wins him the place in the circus he’s always wanted.
Educational Objectives
- To teach students how to stand up for themselves and say "no" if they're asked to do something they think is wrong
- To show an example of a peer pressure situation
- To provide examples of different "good ideas" versus "bad ideas" and evaluate each

Substance Abuse Prevention Classes for Grades 3-6
Synopsis
Is peer pressure really pressure from peers, or is it pressure we put on ourselves to fit in? Scenes, activities and role-play help students learn about the kinds of peer pressure they are unlikely to experience. Students also learn about the nature of indirect peer pressure, and how they can handle this more common form of pressure. In this class, students also gain an awareness of the kinds of risks they are willing to take.
Educational Objectives
- To review the consequences of destructive decision making
- To brainstorm with students the reasons why kids might engage in activities they know could have negative consequences
- To provide a definition of the concept of "peer pressure"
- To identify the kinds of behaviors that students feel pressured to engage in
- To teach and role-play the Refusal Skills Steps

Synopsis
As students get older, they are more likely to find themselves in situations involving gateway drugs. This class focuses on not only defining that term but also examining how likely individual students are to take risks in general. Through a series of scenes and activities, Actor-Educators will clarify what peer pressure may look like. Students will have the opportunity to act out their own ideas of how to "say no" and will also role-play the Refusal Skills Steps.

- To define "gateway drugs"
- To encourage students to think about how likely they are to engage in risky behaviors
- To explore self-pressure as a motivation for risky behavior
- To brainstorm and practice ideas for avoiding risky situations
- To teach and role-play the Refusal Skills Steps as one option that students might utilize in peer pressure situations
